Why Baptist?
Often when people hear Baptist the idea of a denomination comes to mind. Historically Baptists have never been defined by association with a denomination. Rather they have been a people that have recognized the authority of God's Word. As Baptist we are independent in that we do not have an authority (religious or secular) outside of the local church body to govern us. We believe that the local church is accountable to God alone and is to follow the example of church polity as laid out in the New Testament. As Baptists we follow these 7 distinctives:
1) The Bible as our Only Rule of Faith and Practice
2) A Regenerate and Immersed Church Membership
3) The Autonomy of the Local Church
4) The Priesthood of the Believer
5) Individual Soul Liberty
6) Immersion and the Lord's Supper as the only two ordinances
7) Separation of church and state as well as separation ethically and ecclesiastically
